Aahh Graspop, the most awesome metalfestival in Belgium. Especially this year when Graspop celebrated its 20th birthday. It had an awesome line-up with new, upcoming bands and old school rockers. Even at the camping the party continued. It’s just one big metal family. The Graspop experience is: hearing raindrops on your tent, toilet doors that sound like fireworks and having a good time with all the new people you meet at Graspop. Ow, and don’t forget an inner body massage that you get from the bass and the bass drum.

Read more ...Oceans of ink were spent in newspapers and media sites, reporting about the disastrous events at the Eurorock festival in Neerpelt. One the one side, the festival organizers, arguing that a severe case of money theft compromised the normal festival course. On the other side, so-called experts and insiders claiming deceit and even financial fraud by the organizers. Bands pulling out at the last minute and refusing to play, other bands embracing the fans with excellent performances, for the love of music. Among this quarrel, you would almost forget the real mission of the Eurorock festival: an ultimate celebration of gothic, old school new wave, industrial and EBM music with special focus on local Belgian acts. Our report represents the unbiased, ordinary festivalgoer who simply expects having a good time and enjoying his favorite music.

Read more ...Sunday was a truly big day for the serious folkmetal fans. The Mighty Eluveitie brought along the energetic Arkona and their friends of Skalmold. Originally the gig was shceduled in the Biebob venue. But due to the quick sell-out and the high demand, the organisation moved it to the larger Trix Venue.

Gepakt en gezakt, met een uitzonderlijk goed humeur en een feeststemming om U tegen te zeggen, vertrokken we zondagochtend omstreeks 4u richting Tolmin, Slovenië. De werkelijke afstand naar het MetalDays festival bedraagt zo’n 1200 kilometer, maar uit ervaring van de afgelopen jaren wist ondertekende dat er méér dan de door de GPS voorspelde twaalf uur nodig zijn om deze route af te leggen.

Nog een drietal uurtjes scheiden me van het vertrek naar mijn eerste festival van het jaar: MetalDays in Slovenië. Het is de allereerste keer dat dit supergezellige festivalletje in Oost-Europa uitverkocht is. Ze hebben dan ook een mooie schare aan internationale bands op het podium staan, én een aantal extra randactiviteiten gepland.

As Whitsun fell quite late this year, we had to wait until June to head out to Leipzig for the annual Wave Gotik Treffen.

Under a scorching 35 degrees goths and lovers of all things dark came together for 5 days to meet up and celebrate their passion.
