From the homely city of Cork , Ireland comes this new doom quartet Soothsayer.
Their debut consists of just two songs, but as anyone into doom will testify, that says very little about the actual length of the record. They sort of remind me of their kindred spirits across the pond in Lycus or Inter Arma in that they don’t shy away from the odd black metal outburst. It’s also nice to hear they don’t go for the overused murky sludge approach but often choose a rather clear and crisp sound like Mournful Congregation like to do. The vocals are perhaps a little bit too muffled in the mix, but otherwise this is a rather interesting addition to the doom pantheon.
