The Von Deer Skulls are promoted as doom and post-metal. While I am still trying to wrap my head around what the hell I am listening to with The Rest is Silence, I agree with their promotors that they are a wacky combination of doom, Prog Metal, Ambient, Industrial and Post-Rock. I'm just not sure how this all works or does not work together.

The general atmosphere on The Rest is Silence is dark and strange. Add to that the layer of their videoclip (link below), and you start to get an idea of how The Von Deer Skulls want to combine several art forms.

I've listened to The Rest is Silence, and unfortunately, I still don't get it. There is no emotional connection to the music. It feels like a piece of modern art that I am staring at, bewildered, and I just don't know how to make sense of it.

To conclude: if you want to take a trip to Weirdistan, listen to The Rest is Silence by The Von Deer Skulls. I take no responsibility for what you encounter on your trip.
