From the first glance at the wonderfully eerie artwork the legendary Dan Seagrave created for the cover, you know you’re in for a treat with Schwadorf and Konstanz’ sixth opus.
I was already familiar with two of the songs from their recent Kindred of the Sunset’ EP, but they are far from the only highlights on the record. The Vision Bleak is as grandiose an theatrical as ever in their gothic horror splendor, but the songs have just a little bit more bite to them this time like on the opening tandem of “Sprits of the Dead” that leads into the ravenous “From Wolf to Peacock” or the majestic intro of the title track that leads them into the unknown. “Ancient Heart” then in its turn recalls the valiant heathen heroism of Primordial. “How Deep Lies Tartaros” screams out from the depths of classic death metal until the records closes off in doomy fashion with “The Fragrancy of Soil Unearthed”.
