St Matthieu (Remastered & Reborn) by Mercury Rain is a remake of the album from 2004. It was an iconic album for the gothic metal in the United Kingdom at that time.
But do we need a remake of this album? Female fronted metal is not what it was in 2004 anymore, when Nightwish ruled the genre. Even Metal Female Voices Fest is about to retire. So, shouldn't we retire the genre all together?
Mercury Rain shows that there was a lot of creativity in the female fronted metal scene in the early 2000s. However, that time is over. Yes, this album is a trip down memory lane, and contains some genuinely good elements, but most of it seems to be about the past. If you still love female fronted metal, don't dwell in the past, but look at bands who have progressed from the past and bring a fresh new sound, such as Oceans of Slumber.
